What do Johnny Hallyday, Michel Sardou, Mylène Farmer and Alain Souchon have in common? They are among France’s best-paid singers and, notes Frogbites, they are nobodies outside this country.

It’s interesting that hardly any (or none at all) of these artists are known outside France. A case in point is Johnny Hallyday. In 1996, this rocker with a 40-year career, wanted to record a live album in Las Vegas, but found out that he couldn’t sell a single ticket because nobody had ever heard of him in the USA. The French solution was as simple as expensive. No less than 8,000 fans were flown over from Paris to create the illusion of an American success.

Can you guess who the other top-paid chanteurs are?
